  • What is your deposit and cancellation policy
    Upon booking we take a deposit of about 25% of your booking, the balance is due 30 days in advance of your stay. If you cancel before the balance is due we will refund the deposit. If you need to cancel within the 30 days we will refund if we can rebook the rooms. The more notice we have the easier it is to rebook the rooms. This is the same for all booking channels. Rates will not be adjusted once the balance has been paid.
  • How many guests can stay in a room
    All of our rooms have a maximum occupancy of 2 people, unless arranged prior to booking. We do have some options of adjoining rooms. Our property is not set up for children under 12, and children count as people.
  • Are children allowed?
    Although we do love little ones the experience we provide at Mahana House is geared toward 12+ years.
  • How far are you from Hilo
    We are about 20 minutes outside of Hilo in a quiet rural area with the sounds of the rain forest all around. We offer a great central location to visit the East side of Hawaii.
  • Do you have a minimum night stay
    We generally have a 3 night minimum on cottages and 2 nights on King rooms for stays more than 30 days out.
  • Do your rooms have Air Conditioning?
    Very few properties on the Hamakua coast have air conditoning. Our location facing the ocean and at the base of Mauna Kea mean that we benefit from tradewinds during the day and cool mountain breezes from Mauna Kea at night. Check our reviews online you will not see concerns about being too warm at night, and generally during the day you will be out exploring!
  • Why is there a "cleaning fee""
    We chose to list our rates with a cleaning fee instead of adding it to the rate. This gives guests staying longer a lower nightly rate.
